I'm not so sure shooting at the Skull would have worked in the last case, now that I update the naga listing on the Repository (and my notes) for Magical Bolt. (At the table, it was a matter of looking at the spell listing in D&D for that specific naga and seeing that he had magic missile, and deciding that he would lob that as his dying strike. Then I quickly looked up how much Magical Bolt a Magery 3 caster could have, and gave the naga the maximum.) The naga will have Innate Attack (Projectile) at 13 or 14 (the gaze should be slightly higher, having Ability Focus in D&D), and the Skull is -7, and the naga is SM +1 (which seems low the more I think about it, but not too much low), so hitting a human's skull is at -8 right off the bat. That's an effective skill or 5 or 6. Darkness doesn't apply since it was a full moon (-4) and the naga had Night Vision 5, but Caleb was at least a short distance away. If he's Innate Attack-14, he can hit him at up to 7 yards away. I think he might have been 4 or 5 yards away, so yeah, that would have *just* been the right tactic.<br /><br />That is, the right tactic if my die could have rolled a 2. There are no good tactics when you roll like shit.<br /><br />But let me put it this way: if there are any nagas still living who have magic missile on their spell lists, they *might* know how to aim their Magical Bolts better.
